I was in high school when I was first introduced to the idea of blogging. A friend of mine’s mother knew I was interested in fashion showed me a famous blogger that had grown up in the suburbs of Chicago.
Awed, I scrolled through her blog, clicking on every link and article I could find. Could people actually do this? Could this be a real career?
After more research, it became clear that yes, for some it could be a career, for many others it would remain a hobby. A fashion blog is sort of a personal fashion magazine in which you are the editor in chief, the fashion direct, the photographer, the graphic designer, and the intern all in one. Sounds like a lot of responsibility? It is.
With consistent, quality posting, some bloggers are able to secure positions as brand ambassadors for high-end retailers. Positions that once seemed unattainable now appear to have leveled out. Because of blogging, women living outside of fashion hubs like L.A. or N.Y.C. now have the opportunity to express their fashion prowess and receive recognition.
Blogging in recent years has exploded. Mommy blogs, tech blogs, fitness blogs show up on Instagram and Facebook feeds as often as advertisements. Ironically, this popularity could be blogging’s biggest downfall. When everyone is a blogger, everyone remains just that, a blogger. The din of the crowd drowns out your voice much easier when the crowd is 1,000,000 people deep.
For that reason and many others, I was terrified. The thought of starting my own blog in the face of millions of others seemed like a mountain that I did not want to climb, so I waited…and waited. Blogging was something that I would do when I had enough time or when I was ready; in other words, the two adult Neverlands.
4 years later I finally worked up the nerve or more accurately, my loved ones finally had heard enough of my excuses. Now, my blogging career has spanned a grand total of three months, and I can genuinely say that although I still have much more to learn, creating this blog has been one of the best decisions I have been pushed into making.
My blog has taught me that some people actually want to hear about how my leather Guess jacket was one of the best purchases I have ever made and how winter layering allows you to have three different outfits for the price of one.
It has taught me that someone telling me that they read my blog is one of the greatest compliments that I can get.
It has also taught me that some don’t care. Some people think that it is frivolous or superficial or cliché or all of the above, and that is okay. Not everyone is going to love what you do, and not everyone is going to love how you do it.
Another’s negative opinion can never be a reason to quit something you love.
Chances are if it scares you, it is worth doing.

Beautifully said ? I also put off blogging before I just decided to go for it one day. It’s so much work, but I love it! Your photos are beautiful and I really love what I’ve seen on your blog so far. Keep it up! ?
thank you so much 🙂
Just bought what I’m hoping is the black tote you have in the pic:)
It’s forever 21! I didn’t link it because it’s in so many of my other pictures haha.
But thank you 🙂
You’re right and I give you three cheers for doing it. I enjoy reading about your purchases and ideas. Reason enough! Grandma. Keep up the good work!
