Happy mid- July everybody! It is officially the hottest point of the summer. This news is perfect for summer tans, but it isn’t so perfect for finding the right outfit for the day.
My biggest wardrobe struggle is finding the right thing to wear on bottom. Pants are unbearably hot, and shorts usually go hand in hand with staring at yourself in the mirror and sighing. That leaves us with few options. This summer, my favorite alternative has been skirts.
I know what you’re thinking: skirts have proven to be just as problematic as shorts: the chaffing, the awkward sitting, and feeling way too dressed up (truth be told I’ve never really cared about that last one).
Contrary to popular belief, skirts are actually comfortable and have become essential to my summer wardrobe. To prove it, I have compiled three different outfits with three different skirts but yet the same basic white tee highlighting the benefits and variability of each.
1. The High / Low Skirt
I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this skirt. Not only is it comfortable, but it is also incredibly flattering. The elastic band hits me right at the waist, emphasizing my smallest part while creating a perfect hourglass. The high-low hemline gives this classic silhouette a modern edge making it the perfect go to for summer.
2. The Patterned Skirt
My relationship with patterns is similar to that of one with your best friend’s new friend that you can never quite know if you like or not. Patterns are terrifying because they can be done so well and so poorly. Patterns determine whether you look like you should be on the best dressed list or like a vintage couch (see Kim K). What I like about this pattern is that it is simultaneously unique and understated. The form fitting silhouette allows for a big print, emphasizing your shape without enlarging it.
3. The Party Skirt
Who can resist a little fringe? I definitely can’t. When I saw this in the store, I knew I had to have it. Granted, you cannot wear this everyday. This skirt makes it out of the closet when you need to make a statement, preferably while twirling. Did I mention it is super soft? (insert heart eyes emoji here) The neutral color makes it easy to style, and the asymmetrical fringe contrasts it from the other skirts in your closet.
There you have it. Skirts aren’t work. They work for you. Twirl responsibly.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER REAAAAAAAAAAD!!!!!!
OMG I love each look! Where did you get these skirts?
